(…) There comes a time when funerals become the only time for geographically dispersed families to reunite. It's a time for ritualised, obligatory recollection, but also for the intense coexistence of all the other phenomena permitted by the pretext of reunion. Laughing about an event that has not yet been communicated, celebrating the birthday of the newest member of the family, stimulating the appetite through discussions about this or that Japanese restaurant, all fit very well into such situations.
The same applies to Benjamin Husson's practice, in which each subject addressed provides an opportunity to combine historical analysis with societal perspectives and personal / biographical elements through sculpture. The process of mourning plays a major role in his work: through his research, his recordings of traditional mourners and lamentations, but also in a more metaphorical way, by advocating the necessary abandonment of some of the foundations of our Western societies. The artist residency programme is organised by the CAC - la synagogue de Delme in collaboration with the Lorraine Regional Natural Park and the village of Lindre-Basse.
Benjamin Husson (FR, born 1986) lives and works in Brussels. He holds a Master's degree from the Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Rennes (FR, 2010) and a Master's degree in Visual Arts / European Art Ensemble from the Écal, in Lausanne (CH, 2013). He completed his education with a residency at De ateliers, Amsterdam (NL, 2013). His most recent interventions and exhibitions have taken place in Paris (Cabanon), Troyes (Centre d'Art Contemporain Passages), Lyon (La Salle de bain + Monopôle), Lausanne (Circuit-Centre d'Art Contemporain), London (Sundy), Brussels (Gauli Zitter) and Shanghai (Offshore).
