As part of Été Culturel 2024 and in partnership with Scènes et Territoires and the DRAC Grand Est, the Centre d'Art Contemporain - la Synagogue de Delme is hosting a summer residency for artist Romain Vadala at the Gue(ho)st House.
In connection with the artist's MESS project, this residency will create links with young people in the Delme area through artistic workshops on photography and self-publishing. Meetings will be organised with local residents to discuss the photo novel and contemporary forms of storytelling. These meetings will feed into the artist's research.
Mess is a project for a fictional choral series, taking the form of an object-book, in which stories and photographs are combined to create a portrait of teenagers and breathe life into the atmosphere of 'Generation Z'. From the urban to the rural, this residency would be an opportunity to explore new identities in a singular and new context for the artist.
In 2020, for the first time, the Ministry of Culture is offering L'Eté culturel, an exceptional initiative to support the sector and enable the public and artists to stay in touch despite the health crisis. Hundreds of establishments and associations in mainland France and the French overseas departments and territories are mobilising to offer cultural and artistic activities throughout the summer, including workshops, visits and artists' residencies.
In the summer months, Été Culturel takes a number of different forms, and for the first time in 2021, on the initiative of the DRAC Grand Est, Scènes et Territoires is coordinating Jeunes ESTivants, a residency support programme for young artists, developed on a regional scale.
Romain Vadala lives and works in Metz.
He works mainly with writing, photography and the link between text and image.
